Jessica Barreto
License Mental Health Counselor
Jessica is a bilingual therapist who provides services in both English and Spanish. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with the state of Florida. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Applied Psychology from Hodges University and received her graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling from Gulf Coast University. She has a passion for working with adults, children, adolescents who are experiencing work or school concerns, relationships issues, grief, family conflicts, parenting concerns, child behavior concerns, physical/sexual abuse or trauma, more traditional mental health issues such as depression or anxiety.
Jessica’s approach and primary theory for counseling is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT helps clients gain deeper insight into how their thinking and beliefs impact their emotions and behaviors and how this might interfere with overall functioning and well-being. This is an evidence-based treatment, meaning science has shown this method proven to be effective with many life problems in which results are long-lasting and life-changing. Besides CBT, she utilizes elements from Person-Centered, Strength-Based, Humanistic, Experiential, Mindfulness-Based (mind-body therapies), Acceptance and Commitment, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, Behavioral therapy, and Play/Art Therapy techniques.
Jessica considers that therapy should be an inviting, warm, and genuine environment to explore and better understand the issues that clients wish to resolve. Jessica hopes to provide clients with insight, strategies, and skills so they can begin their own process of healing, expand their thinking, nourish their strengths, and take charge of their life.
‘In therapy, I’m caring, encouraging, and yet direct which facilitates change and growth. My role as a therapist is to help foster self-discovery, healing, and transformation’. Jessica Barreto LMCH
